Ice forming, Wrangell St. Elias National Park, Alaska.

Multi-colored rocks under ice, Wrangell St. Elias National Park, Alaska.

Hey Folks

I made it back to Anchorage, at long last. What a debacle that was! After countless hours, and even more countless dollars, my van is up and running, just like it was when it left here. And we’re not really any the wiser as to what the problem may have been. It could’ve been the PCM board (kind of like the mother board computer for the vehicle), but it just as easily could’ve been a $15.00 relay (like a fuse). Or, it could’ve been something completely different, sitting in wait to strike again at some untimely moment. It (the van) suddenly started running fine, and nobody knows why. The joys of electrical components and cars and computers, all together!!! I’ll be pretty stressed out driving around for a while. Ugghh!!

This is another photo from the trip – the first one I took, actually. I saw the ice had started to form on this little creek, and wandered over to see what I could see. This particular place had some really cool rocks under the ice, and I loved the colors and patterns. It was quite a mission to setup my tripod and shoot on this ice without falling in the creek, and without my gear falling in the creek. However, good luck came my way, and I managed to keep myself and my camera from taking a dunking. I was pretty proud of that.

This image is a tribute to the value of shooting where no other photographers happen to be. I’d have been WAY too embarrassed to try this had someone else been around – sometimes it pays to go out on your lonesome. I was slipping and sliding and falling down and nearly getting wet the whole time .. I’m pretty sure I’d be all over youtube by now if someone happened to be standing by with a little cell phone video thing (I gotta get one of those things someday).

Anyway, no one saw, so, I won’t go on about it – just know that, even under the duress of the arctic winter, I looked good the whole time!

Hopefully I’ll catch up on some posting here this week, and also get some new photos online on the website galleries. i’m WAY behind on that. I’ll be around for a week or 10 days, I guess, then I might be gone for a while. But that story shall remain for a later post. 🙂

Cheers

Carl

Glad to hear the ‘adventure’ with the vehicle is resolved Carl. It is only going to get worse with all of the electronics. But pretty soon you will at least have internet access in your vehicle – so when it breaks down, you can email for help. 😉

Cool photo – but you worry me – looks like something I might be interested in shooting. 🙂

    Hey Mark,

Egads, I hope not – I barely manage to scrape emails together with a real computer .. can you imagine me trying to do that with a computer in a vehicle – I guess there’s a reason why we say computers ‘crash’, eh? 🙂

As for the photo, oh yeah, you’d love to have seen this little creek. There was all kinds of cool stuff to be found.

    Thanks for posting.

    Cheers

    Carl
